Camels in Morroco

Image
This trek was just down the beach in Essouria.  The scary part was when the camel stood up or got down on his knees.

Lesson 3

And then it comes full circle to the global game of football/soccer. Through the whole afternoon both kids found new playmates and coped with a lack of langage by using much pointing and acting.

Lesson 2

2.  Clapping and cheering in any language will attract others. Added benefit: it then turns into the English kids learning a new Arabic game - kash kash. Its like hide and seek combined with tag.

The tooth fairy visits Essouira

Image
C lost a tooth (finally! It had been hanging on for dear life for weeks!) yesterday. This morning he found a note from the fairy in Arabic and some dihrams under his pillow.

Dinner on the balcony and other meals

Image
Two nights ago Aziz brought in some dinner for us to have on our balcony. Last night, his mother cooked a full Moroccan feast for us- soup, couscous with meat and veg, and a plate full of strawberries for pudding. Every morning we've been eating lots of Moroccan honey with breakfast. In between,  its been lots of local fare and fruit juices.

Aziz at Hotel Orson Wells

Image
After a few days of passable French and English conversations with Aziz (who runs the hotel), Bella discovered that he speaks very good Spanish- a whole new depth of understanding now. We've been very happy with the place. It has just the right amount of "character". So much so that it looks like Aziz's mother will be cooking dinner for us on our last night.

The first morning in Essouira

Image
It started with an awakening by the call to prayer across the neighbourhood before sunrise. It ended with a camel ride on the beach for the kids.

Awaiting the boarding call to Marakech, we decided to get some other cusine-sushi.

Cricket Camp a success

Image
C finished up cricket camp with the "most improved" award today.  Sean, the coach who used to play for the Zimbabwe national team, was a big part of the positive experience. The weather was cold and overcast most of the time; you can just see C's whites poke out ftom under his red jumper.
