D's 8th Birthday

Image
Here she is before school, ready with her birthday badge. We all went out for a celebratory dinner- Indian food.  And we git the entire resturant to sing Happy Birthday to her.

That tooth is FINALLY gone

Image
One of D's teeth has absolutely refused to leave all spring.  Hanging by a thread, it tormented the family and dentist for months. The tooth fairy finally got to add it to her collection over the weekend.

We're out on Pirbright Road getting C from Scouts at 8:30pm.

Uncle Nate Flies

Image
After a month of Skippy peanut butter and squeezes for the kids, Uncle Nate flew back to the United States this morning. While he was here, we all made the trip to Berlin , Nate made the rounds of friends and pubs, we layered extra visitors- like Vince - into the house, just missed the US Ambassador and went through a years supply of hard cheese. You can almost see a smile creeping onto Uncle Nates' face...

The Teirgarten Beer Garden

Image
We found a perfect fitting for our final meal in Berlin.  A traditional, local and all ages beer garden.  Lots of shnitzel, beer and big doughy pretzels. And is was a beautiful walk there and back along the Teirgarten.

The Berlin Wall

Image
A powerful open air display- parts of the wall, markers where people were shot and lots of information in both German and English.  Around the neighbourhood, there are big photos on buildings showing views through the 1950's to 1990's. This picture shows C against the wall of no man's land and an original watch tower.

Burgermeister!

Image
A hamburger stand, under the train tracks, made out of an old public loo.  Fantastic food.

Treptow Park

Image
Treptow Park is a large Russian memorial to the soldiers of WWII.  It fits the size of Russia- the statue behind is a good 50 ft. tall and on top of a hill.

Holocaust Memorial 2

Image
A view from eye level.  There are 2711 rectangles. And the ground varies in height, like being on waves.

Holocaust Memorial 1

Image
A huge array of gray granite rectangles. Like a maze.

Brandenburg Gate

Image
Arrived in Berlin after a very early start in Southfields today. Very authentic food at Joseph Roth Deile for lunch. And then a much needed stroll to the Gate and through Teirgarten.
